Events that have been sponsored by the Bensenville Arts Council

  • Heritage Day – See what life was like 175 years ago with historical reenactments. The day also featured children’s crafts and entertainment, petting zoo, and music.
 In partnership with the Bensenville Park District.
  • Annual Holiday Assembly – Fenton High School performs Holiday Band and Choral music for elementary age children in the Fenton High School Auditorium.
  • Author Visits – Local author, Joelle Charbonau was brought in and presented to Blackhawk Middle School about her book, “The Testing”
  • Orchestra Performances – The Bensenville Chamber Orchestra and the Tenuto Orchestra performed concerts at Blackhawk Middle School, with outreach and special performances by local children in grades 5-8.
  • Annual Fun Arts Days – Students in grades 2-5 had the opportunity to participate in after-school workshops to explore their creative side in Theatre, Dance, Art and Music.
  • Library Holiday Open House – A harpist and an acapella choir – featuring two forms of music not commonly experienced in Bensenville.
  • Strokes of Genius – Vincent VanGogh and Leonardo DaVinci.  Local actor Scott Shepard came to Blackhawk Middle School and gave inateractive presentations about Vincent VanGogh and Leondardo DaVinci (separate performances), bringing the artist back to life for children in 6th grade.
  • The Mime Company  – Introduced children in grades kindergarten through 2 to the art form of mime, which promotes creativity, self-expression, cooperation and self confidence.
  • BMS Band Clinician — the following clinicians have been brought in over the past few years to work with Blackhawk Band students in grades 6-8: Mr. Pete Griffin (Elmhurst College professor), Dr. Judy Grimes (Elmhurst College professor), Mr. Ross Kellan (former high school director and Elmhusrt College professor), Mr. George Pierard (former middle and high school band director, principal and IGSMA president), Mr. Steve Smith (former middle school director from Flower Mound, TX and current education coordinator for Hal Leonard Publishing)
  • Bensenville Reads – annual program in partnership with Bensenville Community Library to promote reading and community spirit.
  • Soup Supper & Student Art Show Reception – Residents were invited to purchase a hand decorated or hand made bowl and participate in a Soup Supper to benefit the Bensenville and Wood Dale Food Pantry at the library. The student art show is also on display in the library. There will be a Student Art Show reception for grades K through 12 .
  • Blackhawk Middle School Empty Bowl Auction – Arts Council provides supplies for students to decorate bowls that are then filled with candies and auctioned off to raise money for the Bensenville Wood Dale Food Pantry.
  • Young Musicians Mentor Band- Annually in the summer
  • The Magic of Masks – new this year, Artist Jeff Semmerling of Inside Out Art Studio in Chicago will offer a assembly about the masks, followed by a workshop at Tioga and Johnson Elementary Schools.
  • Big Band Concert – The Bensenville Wood Dale Concert Band performed a big band concert at the Fenton High School auditorium
